Seahaven is the way the world should be.” This quote can relate to the allegory of the cave because there are prisoners in the cave. Their only outlet to the world above was the shadows that danced across the cave walls. “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. describes a utopian society where everyone is equal. Allegory of the Cave and the Inferno In the Allegory of the Cave there were people only able to look at the cave wall and only be able to see the shadows of what people were doing. The people looking at the wall could only really see a glimpse or part of what was going on in real life. This is a form of torture because the people are chained to face the wall and this is it, they can not turn around or anything. In the inferno Dante has to go through seven different layers of hell and torture.…

Plato 's "The Apology" and "The Allegory of the Cave" essentially provide the same message through different mediums -- the self and the soul is taken care of through the pursuit of truth, and self-criticism and self-inquiry help keep the soul in check, ensuring that the soul is being taken care of. From these two pieces, the "care" for our "soul" or our "self" means that people are obliged to become more meaningful. Caring for the self involves the highest level of morality and knowledge to the highest level as possible. People should be constantly re-examining their lives in order to improve themselves. Caring for the self involves constant self-improvement.…

Despite the plot which has been done before (most notably on television series "The Twilight Zone" and "The Prisoner"), "The Truman Show" manages to surprise and delight. The clever screenplay by "Gattaca" scripter Andrew Niccol plays up on the inherent phoniness of televised drama with a very sly and subversive sense of humor. The script is also engaging in its emotional dynamic of Truman having his world unraveled around him, and choosing between risking his own life for freedom, or to stay content in the world's most comfortable prison. However, unlike the bloated "Godzilla", "The Truman Show" ends too quickly without giving a chance to thoroughly explore the…

Our understanding of what is reality and what is altered, lead us to believe that the world we see is far from the truth. “The Allegory of The Cave”, written by Plato is based upon the reality the prisoners believe they live in, which in truth, is far from the actual world itself. The shadows portrayed to the prisoners by the puppeteers, reconstruct their minds making them distort their sense on what is ethical. This correlates to society today, based on how people see what they want to see, even if it is not reality. The prisoners in the cave compare to society today by revealing true life could be an altered reality, displayed through symbols and allegories showing what we do not know about the world around us.…

A theory written by Plato, ‘The Allegory of The Cave’ explains the concern of human perception. Plato differentiates between people who mistake sensory knowledge for the truth and people who really do see the truth. The material world is just partial pictures of true images. Relying on physical senses alone, makes you “effectively blind”, according to Socrates. The world we see is a reflection of what the world represents, not a very accurate representation.…
