Napoleon enters the oval office.
Napoleon: “Bonjour, ca va?”
Thomas Jefferson: “I’m doing fine. However, if you would not mind, could we speak in English?”
Napoleon: “That is fine with me.”
Thomas Jefferson: “Now, I presume you are here to discuss the purchase of The Louisiana Territory?”
Napoleon: “Oui, of course, what else would we be here to do? Declare war or something?” (laughs)
Thomas Jefferson: (Small chuckle) “Sorry, silly of me to ask.”
Napoleon’s Guard : “Are you sure of this, Monsieur?”

Thomas Jefferson: “Just about to discuss about this purchase. So, how much would it cost me to purchase this land from you?”
Napoleon: (Thinks) “Oui, oui, it would be 15 million dollars for all the land.”
Thomas Jefferson: “15 million”? (To assistant) “Wow, I didn’t think he would go that low,”
Thomas Jefferson’s Assistant: “I know, he must really want something from us if he is putting it that price”
Thomas Jefferson: “I know, but I’m not going to ask. Let us just see if we can look over to document first so we know there is no trick. And, Napoleon? Would you mind if me and my assistant took some time to look over this document you have presented before us today?”
Napoleon: “No, go right ahead, I understand that you Americans must be suspicious about this deal. (Napoleon and guard share a private laugh) I mean it’s not every day you get an offer for so much land, we will just stand outside and wait for your decision.”
Thomas Jefferson: “Good, good.”
Napoleon and his Guard leave the oval office.
Napoleon: “Now you wanted to know why we are selling the land for so little is, because we have tried to selt there but we just keep having slave revolts that we don’t want to have to worry about anymore so we just going to sell the land. They probably have more use for it
