During the Cold War, both the United States and the Soviet Union attempted to better each other through technological and military advancements. The United States possibly made the first step with the development of the atomic bomb and using it on Japan to end World War II. Ultimately, this would be a driving force behind the developing race between the United States and the Soviet Union to become the world’s most powerful nation. During this tense period the United States and the Soviet Union never battled directly, but the two of them continually antagonized each other through political maneuvering, military coalitions, espionage, propaganda, arms buildups, economic aid, and proxy wars between other nations. However, for the Soviet Union, they imposed their ideals on other countries. They constantly challenged each other through negative propaganda about how each country was ran politically, through military advancements, and challenging themselves with the idea of humans in space. In reality, both countries, were similar and different from each other in many ways. Different in the form of how each country was ran or controlled, and very similar in the want to have the upper hand in the advancement of technology and military might. Because both countries were adamant about being the country with all military power and technology made for rough 45 years that would popularly be called the Cold War. Eventually the United States would come out on top and the Soviet Union’s form of government and attempts at leading in technology and military might would fail. Now that the Soviet Union is no longer and separate into states of their own. Still today, the United States stands as a major Super Power and a leader in both civilian and military technology
