Additions and Cuts In the movie, The Crucible, there were quite a few differences and changes throughout the movie and the play. There may be some reasons on why the director of the movie decided to change or add scenes to it. One difference between the movie and the play was the scene where Abigail and John Proctor met in the woods and talked. In the play, that scene was not there because it was the missing scene from act two. That impacted the movie because it showed how John really reacted to what Abigail did. A second difference was in the play it had only talked about the girls dancing in the woods when they were in Betty’s room. In the movie it showed them there in the woods dancing. There are minor changes such as setting from the courtroom to the lake to major changes such as Abigail and John’s relationship being much different between the two formats of text. The relationship between the 17-year-old Abigail Williams and the thirty-something-year-old John Proctor morphed into a more intimate affair in the movie than how it was presented in the play. In both cases, mostly innocent people were put on trial for instances that they didn’t commit or have any part in. Arthur Miller wrote the playwright for The Crucible in 1953 and then wrote the screenplay for the 1996 movie, based on the play; Miller decided to change scenes to make the movie more interesting to the audience. The Crucible by Arthur Miller is based on the tragic Salem witch trials of 1692. Salem was a Puritan village, where children worked all day and were never allowed to play, and everyone was expected to make an appearance at the church service on Sundays. The Salem witch trials followed the witch hunts which spread across Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, where thousands of people were executed. Many of those who were executed were practicing folk customs, as Tituba was (historically) in Massachusetts. The Crucible, while not historically accurate, helps readers understand the fear the villagers felt, and better understand the workings of the minds of all those involved.…

The Crucible it is often said that characters drives a film. In fact all films seem to have a conflict in this case the conflict of the movie is between the reason of the human mind and the irrational fear of madness they began to believe the girls was being controlled by the devil which one girl lied and got a lady wiped . Miller was using the story of the unreasonable panic of the Salem trials to comment on the madness of the McCarthy’s time of rules . The reason of these men is appealing and believable to Reverend Hale, but it is the hysteria of the girls' accusations that wins the outcome and Hale removes himself from the proceedings. The true hero of this movie is John Proctor fought heroically for his wife’s freedom, his own freedom,…

Ever heard of the Blair Witch that haunts the Black Forrest in Maryland? It’s based on a true event close to The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, that happened in 1692. Charles Caleb Colton coined the phrase “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, and Arthur Miller must have taken this to heart when he wrote his play, The Crucible. The story arc of John Proctor, the male protagonist from The Crucible, has many striking similarities to that of Reverend Dimmesdale, the male protagonist from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s magnum opus, The Scarlet Letter. The Crucible tells the story of John Proctor, a farmer who gets caught up in the Salem Witch Trials after he has an affair with a young woman from the village, Abigail Williams. The Scarlet Letter follows Hester Prynne, an adulteress living in Boston who has a child with the town’s minister, Reverend Dimmesdale. She is forced to wear a red letter “A” on her bosom…
