Human Cloning Controversy

There is a lot of controversy regarding the Catholic Church and Human Cloning. With more research and scientific advances, it may be possible in the near future to clone human beings. Obviously, the ethical problems that arise must be put into consideration. According to the National Human Genome Research Institute, “cloning describes several processes that can be used to produce genetically identical copies of a biological entity.” Scientifically, human cloning is similar and the only difference is that the biological entity is human beings. On the other hand, morally, human cloning is very different and has different moral implications. Human cloning is against the Church because the human clone was not conceived in a natural way, through …show more content…
According to Dr. Richard Seed, human cloning may be able to one day reverse the aging process. Proponents of human cloning may also argue that therapeutic cloning may be able to cure many diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson 's, diabetes, and infertility. No definitive proof has shown this but with advances in technology, it may be quite possible in the future. Currently, adult stem cells or also known as somatic cells can be used to cure diseases and are completely moral, but taking the life of an embryo is not moral. The most important to consider with regards to the morality of certain treatments using therapeutic cloning is that the ends do not justify the means. Even if the sacrifice of one human life is enough to save millions, the killing of one person does not justify saving all those people. When dealing with issues such as human life, the moral object should be considered. If the object is to save lives and a life is lost as the outcome, then the circumstance is probably moral, but if the object is to harvest organs and blood to save lives, then the situation is most probably …show more content…
God created man in his image and likeness and he also created them male and female. It would become possible for anyone with a somatic cell and an egg to create a clone. Babies are meant to be made through the conjugal love of their parents, not in an artificial way. Women are exploited in the process of human cloning. Instead of a child being conceived through the conjugal love of a couple, the woman is used for her eggs and her uterus to hold the baby made from the cells of someone else. With advances in modern science women who are reduced to their purely biological functions may be altogether replaced by artificial wombs. This is totally immoral because it reduces the female body to just a place to create a baby. I remember from the Life is Very Good concert in Arlington, Virginia on the March for Life this year that the speaker said that women are tabernacles. When we reduce people to machines capable of making human clones we take away the sanctity of the womb. Human cloning contradicts the natural sanctity of women and life and turns babies, who are supposed to be made from love into a

Instead of creating clones that have to experience the effects of the imperfections, scientists should focus more on improving the lives of people by using other ways that does not include ethics or does not cause harm to others. These scientists are making the clones suffer through unneeded complications. Head states in the article, “Should human cloning be banned?”, “Scientists generally agree that it would be irresponsible to clone a human being until cloning has been perfected, given that the cloned human would probably face serious, and ultimately terminal, health issues.” It is impetuous for scientists to continue cloning because the babies that were made are alive and have their own feelings. They should not be forced to live with health issues their entire life because of our imperfect experiments. Scientists only want to create clones in order to have better organ donors.…

(From http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/cloning/cloningrisks/) If these health problems arise in human clones, it is easy to see the inhumanity of cloning. Some say that cloning is more beneficial than not. If you needed an organ or limb transplant but there was no donor, you would just chop one out of your clone! You could lose as many limbs as you want, as long as you continued to make clones. Some women might want to have babies, but wouldn’t be able to.…

Because lives are saved, families are given hope, and a non-curable disease is possibly cured, stem cell research and transplantations are moral practices. For certain groups of American citizens, stem cell research is not a moral or safe practice because it gives “godly” powers to humans, foreshadows the eventual human clones and uses cells from innocent human babies. The counterargument is not valid because it expresses the fear and has no valid point. Additionally, the point that stem cells are using previously destroyed tissue cells to benefit another is being overlooks. Stem cell transplantation and research has the potential of growing in a valuable medical practice that can diminish human suffering and prolong human life as a…

    Benefits Of Human Cloning

People with conservative religious morals could find it unacceptable to perform cloning because they would consider the act as playing God (Reasons For and Against Cloning). According to Joseph Farnsworth, the American Medical Association has four reasons on why cloning should not take place. The reasons are: “1) there are unknown physical harms introduced by cloning, 2) unknown psychosocial harms introduced by cloning, including violations of autonomy and privacy, 3) impacts on familial and societal relations, and 4) potential effects on the human gene pool” (Farnsworth). Another ethical question involving cloning would be whether the clones would have human rights. Phil for Humanity talks about this idea that we would create a these docile humans with super strength and a low-intelligence.…

Some feel that the cloning of embryos, is morally repugnant and may feel that the idea of cloning humans is “playing God” according to “What are the Pros and Cons of Cloning?” So, if too many people are conflicted based on a moral stance, it will create too much turmoil in the science community. Considering how difficult it is to create clones, scientist cannot afford to get their clones rejected solely based on morale. Others also fear that people could decide to genetically engineer super kids, according to “What are the Pros and…

One of those is cloning could save numerous peoples lives. Even though cloning humans for their organs is wrong in so many ways, but if they are only taking organs that the clone can live without then it wouldn 't be as bad. Cell differentiations is how generic embryonic cells become specialized cells.…

Who are we to take away that right to our uniqueness? We are also taking away our own natural ability to provide a better chance of survival by the genetic differences provided by sexual reproduction. Many arguments have been made in the past on why cloning is ethical, but in retrospect they are wrong. In this case the pro’s do not outweigh the con’s. Arguments have been made stating that cloning could save lives, but it would jeopardize many more than it would save the scientists from the article “The Cloning Debate.…

Everybody has different arguments and different views on it and there will always be differences but there has to be a way to make people see that killing is wrong especially if the baby is still in the mother’s stomach. Once the egg is fertilized by the sperm and conception begins that is the beginning of a human and it begins to form into a human. These pro-abortion activist are out there telling people that if it cannot survive out of the womb then it is not alive. That is the biggest lie and so untrue. If you can see the little hands and toes forming in the womb, that baby is definitely alive.…

    Embryonic Stem Cell Ethics

Embryonic Stem Cell Research is going against the morality of a human, which then leads on to saying that humans are going against God’s decisions for us. The destruction of the embryo contravenes the ‘final cause’ of conception of God. As human’ some of our values are based on helping the sick, injured and finding solutions to problems that we can’t solve and that is what we believe as being morally right. But, this is seen as extraordinary treatment as it results in the death of embryos, which is not worth the potential benefits. 3.2 Strengths of Natural Law: Embryonic Stem Cell Research There are not really any strengths of Natural Law for Embryonic Stem Cell Research because all of the points for the research is negative.…
