Differences Between The Blind Side Movie And Book

Great Essays
When I was in middle school, my family and I would always cozy up in the living room to watch a good movie on Sunday nights. One night, my mom chose the movie The Blind Side directed by John Lee Hancock. It instantly became my favorite movie. It portrays a young, black man, Michael Oher, who is adopted by a wealthy, white family, The Touhys, trying to succeed in academics and his football career. It shows how he basically comes from nothing and grows up to become a successful football star. I had always wanted to read the book the movie was based on, The Blind Side written by Michael Lewis, ever since I first saw the movie, but I hadn’t ever gotten the chance to. This assignment finally gave me the opportunity to read it. Both the book and …show more content…
In the book, Sean is the main person in Michael’s life. He is the first person to help Michael, which eventually leads to Micheal trusting him. The first thing Sean does to help him is to make sure that he has enough money for lunch since the lunches at his new private school (Briarcrest) aren’t free: “Sean went to the Briarcrest accounting department and arranged for Michael Oher to have a standing charge card at the lunch check out counter” (66). Sean has been in his place before because he too has been the poor kid at a private school, which is what makes him want to start helping Michael. Sean also tells Michael to call him first if anything bad ever happens to him. Michael gets into a fight with one of his teammates and ends up hurting a little boy in the process. After the fight happens, Michael flees. No one is able to find him. When he finally calls Sean, he says, “Pops, you’re my first call. Just like I promised” (316). This shows how prominent Sean has become in his life because Michael is coming to him for help when he’s in trouble. It shows that Michael trusts him. Leigh Anne isn’t a huge character in the book. She is someone Michael can talk to and someone he can trust. He also comes to her for help from time to time. She helps him find clothes to wear when they go on a shopping trip together as well. In the movie, these roles are reversed. Leigh Anne is the more prominent person in Michael’s life. She is constantly helping him and giving him things. She gives him a place to stay on her couch and eventually a permanent room in her house, and she even gives him a truck. Before Leigh Anne and Michael go shopping in the movie, she takes him to Hurt Village (he lived there before going to Briarcrest) to try to find his birth mother so they can get some of his clothes. Once they find out she isn’t living there anymore, Leigh Anne proceeds to

The movie To Kill a Mockingbird, based on the novel written by Harper Lee showed the life of a child during the Great Depression and captured the theme of innocence taken away by evil. In most cases the book is always better than the film because life lessons are taken away in greater detail and are much easier to apply to a reader's life. Many movies stray from the book as did To Kill a Mockingbird, but also captured the scenes not shown in the book. Unlike the book, the movie had taken away the relationship that Boo Radley had with the children. One part of the book which was not shown in the movie was Mrs. Maudie's house fire when Boo Radley had draped a blanket over Scout’s shoulders while Jem and Scout were standing in the cold.…

As the author of the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ken Kesey did not approve of the film that was later produced in honor of his piece of writing. There is an ongoing debate over whether the movie, or the novel, was a better piece of art. In the novel, Chief serves as the narrator, which allows the reader to get into the heads of the patients in the institution, and better understand their perception of what is going on in the ward. In the movie, you are better able to experience what is actually going on in the ward, and the motives of the patients, such as McMurphy. The difference between the characterization in the movie version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest allows the audience to achieve a more realistic understanding of…

I think what Sean was trying to give off in the scene I chose is that you have never fully lived until you are able to feel all of the feelings that we as humans are supposed to feel. In the movie, Sean showed that he is vulnerable yet masculine at the same time by the definitions of society. Sean stated that he would kill will if he ever disrespected his deceased wife again. That is the stereotypical masculinity. But further in the movie, He opens up to how he has loved, lost, hurt and just so many other emotions.…

“The Blind Side” is a film depiction of the life of NFL left tackle, Michael Oher and his miraculous transition from being a homeless teen to becoming an NFL first round draft. The film follows the development of Michael as he is taken off the street by the Tuohy’s and with their support became involved with football. I chose this film because it portrays the social and behavioural development of a teen without a stable upbringing and how it affects his relationship and encounters with others. The movie does not only show the development aspect of one stage of adolescence but follows Michael’s character from childhood to his adult years. As well, the movie forms basis of comparison between Michael and the Tuohy children.…

A popular proverb says, what a man [women]thinks in his heart so is he. This expresses the fact that the way we think impacts the person that we are. I believe this to be true, however our thoughts are a product of our self-concept which can be reinforced or changed by the communication that occurs within our interpersonal relationships. In the 2009 American Biographical sports drama, “The Blind Side,” they present the audience with many examples of the positive effects of good interpersonal communication in creating and maintaining a positive self-concept and self-esteem. The interactions of the main characters, Michael Oher and Leigh Ann Tuohy, played by Quinton Aaron and Sandra Bullock, and the entire Tuohy family demonstrates this.…
