Skill is a huge factor when it comes to writing an essay, but it doesn’t seem to go with exams. Sure there are techniques that one can use when taking an exam and can be translated to an essay, but skill will be the determining factor on the grade one will receive from his or her instructor. I’ve spent two years trying to perfect my writing since I’ve come to this school. I thought I knew how to write an essay but it seems that I am entirely wrong when it come to writing an essay. I was place into the second to lowest class this school had to offer when coming to this school, but I’ve probably should have entered the lowest class to build up the foundation of my writing skills. Exams are all the same; I study, review, quiz myself, and take the exam. With an essay I worry, plan, write an outline, write a draft (unless it is an in-class essay), revise, take a break, revise some more, and turn in a final draft that I am satisfied with in order to obtain a decent grade. The reason I made it this far is because my English writing skills have increased over the years and know I’ve finally developed the skills necessary to keep moving forward in my education.
