When Rome and the Hellenistic would have contacted each other, many differences was to come. The first indirect contact was through Etruscans intermediaries then through direct contact with Greek communities in southern Italy and Sicily. Hellenistic legacy was challenged by many romans because they felt threatened by their ideas. The intellectual influence would eventually spread throughout Rome and the beginning stages of the second century. During the second and third century romans tried to expel Greek philosophers because their ideas might undermine the historical values.
