Political parties and interest groups go hand in hand, as they both run campaigns independently of candidates. In most cases, voters will choose a political party or cause to vote for, even before the candidates are presented. Nonetheless, they are different as political parties represent an ideology, encompassing a wide variety of issues and interest groups lobby for a specific issue or a category of identical issues. Interest groups differ greatly from political parties and one major reason is because they do not position their representatives in the government.
