Katniss and Mulan
Katniss and Mulan are characters that exist during totally different times in history. This affects the development of their character and the way they behave during key points in their life. The Hunger Games takes place sometime in the future where the government controls the lives of the 12 poor districts that exist. Mulan, takes place in Ancient China where because of traditional customs women have been taught to be inferior to men.
Katniss and Mulan are extremely talented individuals that use their skills to survive and make reasonable decisions. Katniss learned how to use a bow and arrow because of her father and therefore has a significant advantage over the other competitors. She uses her talent in archery to knock down a tracker jacker hive and slow down her opponents. Katniss not only uses her talent during The Hunger Games, but also when she must get food for her younger sister and her best friend’s siblings. When Katniss hunts she uses all

While Mulan had to show ultimate respect towards her father, she had a better childhood than Katniss. Mulan enjoyed the luxury of being raised by both parents who had no problem getting along. She grew up in a loving environment with the support of her family. Katniss on the other hand had her childhood cut short when her father died when she was only 11 years old. She had to become the head of the family and provide the essentials for their survival. Her mom abandoned her responsibilities because her pain was more than she could handle. Katniss never gave up on her sister Prim and she strived to get more each day to ensure that Prim never went hungry.
Katniss and Mulan have a lot of similarities, but they are also different in many ways. They are characters that used their skills to make decisions and to fight for what they want. They were selfless individuals who put their lives on the line for them despite their differences in
