If I were to make the Joy Luck Club into a film, I wouldn’t. There already is a film. Directed by Wayne Wang and released in 1993, the film adaptation of Amy Tan’s novel is just as powerful as the novel itself. Kieu Chinh was casted as Suyuan, Tsai Chin as Lindo, France Nuyen as Ying-Ying, Lisa Lu as An-mei, Ming-Na Wen as June, Tamlyn Tomita as Waverly, Lauren Tom as Lena, and lastly, Rosalind Chao as Rose. Each part was wonderfully played by each of the actresses. The film adaptation perfectly executes the unique style and everlasting stories of the original book.
