I understand that the rich people live in East Egg and newly wealthy people live in West Egg. But, New York itself was a disaster. In the book, I imagined it to just be New York in the nineteen-twenties. Although, watching how the city looked like in the movie surprised me. I thought it looked like the aftermath of World War I, The Great Depression. In addition, there is the infamous Valley of Ashes. In the book, it’s this vast wasteland that is mentioned several times. In the movie, it’s only touched on once or twice and it wasn’t very interesting as it was made out to be. One major plot hole was Gatsby’s extravagant parties. I felt like it was overdone in the movie. It was more of a costume party and circus act all rolled into one. It was a mistake using modern day rap music, as well. I say that because, this story takes place in the roaring 20’s and Jay Z wasn’t rapping back then like he was at Mr. Gatsby’s parties. The use of modern day music ruined the effect of the party. As for the events, Tom punches Myrtle for mentioning Daisy in the novel. He punches her causing her to break her nose. In the movie, he just pushed her. Another event, is when Gatsby sent someone to fetch Jordan for him at his party. That never happened in the book. Another difference, is Mr. Gatz. In the novel, he arrived for the funeral and spoke to Nick. In the movie, they cut him out
