There are key differences which are relevant to teaching and technology integrated strategies between ESL and FLL.The major differences are the availability of the language input in the environment and the opportunities for using it in meaningful situations. Unlike the FLL learners, ESL learners have more opportunities for learning English which is a lingua franca as it is being spoken by majority of people around the world. Besides, there is a need to learn the language as it is being used frequently for day-to-day tasks especially in the area of employment and for educational purposes. Virtual field trips provide opportunities for students to go places that would be impossible for them (Castleberry & Evers, 2010). Further, VFTs enable learners to make connections between the wide-ranging environments they can explore virtually and them. It also offers authentic, inquiry-based learning experiences to learners.
