Unlike the first group they do not want to focus on redistribution efforts. These individuals believe that all Americans have the same opportunity to succeed and how successful you are depends on the amount of hard work you put into it. They believe the poor lack perseverance and talent to move up the social latter. These individuals do not want higher taxes for the rich because they believe that those that are successful should not have to carry all of those who are not. There is a strong push from this side of the class divide to encourage individual responsibility. There is also the cultural debate of how to carry out this process in public schools. One side of the argument believes that talking about sex to students makes them want to do it and if they do not say anything, then they would have never had the thought in the first place. This was a huge issue in 2012. Sarah Palin said she was in favor of abstinence all the way to when her daughter became pregnant out of wedlock and was going to have the baby.
