In Cambodia, many couples are mostly arranged by their parents. In the past, their child especially daughter is not able to refuse their parent’s decision in choosing a future husband. As nowadays, this tradition has become less influence and the children are free to refuse their parental suggestions. In addition, as a couple becomes acquaintance, if they want to get engaged, they need to discuss with their parents and both need to agree on their marriage. Once both families agree, they need to consult with a fortune teller to determine the most auspicious date for their wedding. It depends on some families that they would do the engagement ceremony first or skip through to the wedding ceremony. An engagement ceremony is held at the bride’s home and there will be elders, monks in the attendance. It is a small ceremony that shows those two is now become one couple and they wear an engagement ring to clarify that they have someone in their heart already. Moreover, wedding is a large celebrations that lasting for three days. Although the wedding process is similar to engagement process, but a wedding ceremony is larger and more celebrations than engagement ceremony. According to the interview with Miss Chama Sookpraserd, she said that the funeral normally lasts up to 3 days only (“Marriage and Death in Thailand”). When someone has passed away in Thai’s ritual tradition, it is important that they never leave the decease’s body alone and need to put the body in a white coffin with flowers and wreath surrounding the coffin. Among the funeral, there will be many groups of mourners each night that will assist the decease’s body such as their relatives or friends and there will be a meal for them too. Additionally, when the mourning period ends, the decease’s body will be cremated and the ashes will be placed in a wat (pagoda). Traditionally, the attenders need to wear a dark or muted-colored clothes and it is optional to have an armband.
