Imperialism can be described as a system where a stronger country in terms of weaponry and economy take full control of other countries after a long lasting war. Imperialism can also take the aspect of culture and influence where other nations believe that they are superior in terms of their culture and economy. From the perspective of weaponry we can study Britain as a good case study and France as well, taken to be an imperialist countries. At the beginning of the nineteenth century Britain had travelled all over the world, to control most nations due to several factors, she was pushed to extend her powers to Western Europe and as far as African continent. The need for raw materials forced Britain to extend her powers to most countries in Africa such as Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Somalia (Peterson 537). The arrival of British in Africa for colonization was met by strong forces that either resisted the rule while other accepted the rule partially. Britain found a lot of minerals in Africa where they argue could supply the industries back in Europe. The British used both direct and indirect policy to rule their colonies for instance in Zimbabwe they ruled directly due to the fact that there was a larger population of whites in Zimbabwe and the Africans were lesser. In other countries the British applied the indirect policy like the case of Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria. The French strictly applied the policy of assimilation where they assimilated the Africans and were taken to live in the communes, for instance in Senegal there were four communes that is Dakar, Goree, St Louis and Rufisque. The policy of assimilation accepted the Africans to taken and treated like French people and given the French education while the British did not incorporate Africans in their ruling.
