Differences And Tris In Divergent, By Veronica Roth

Divergent is hands down the best book I have read in about 6 years! Beatrice was a character people of many different ages- and even genders could connect with. Each faction also imitated apart of society we all live in today which I found not only exciting but a book that could be used to teach many different lessons to a classroom a children. This book being told in first person makes readers feel apart of the action and throughout the story I found a dislike for the Erudites ( with exception to her brother Caleb), because she did, I liked Tobias— because she did! This book was fast paced because there was so much happening at once and so many different fights and battles taking place around Beatrice. ‘Tris’ also had so many new choices …show more content…
The first big one I noticed was at Al’s funeral. The leader Eric was talking about how his suicide was courageous. Tris however thinks “ Pride is what killed Al, and it is a flaw in every Dauntless heart. It is in mine” (308-309.) I enjoy how she sees human nature as flawed as opposed to everyone BUT her faction. Her mother who is also a Divergent thinks just like her daughter. Instead of being upset at her for leaving home she tells her “ You’re my daughter. I don’t care about the factions. Look where they got us. Human beings as a whole cannot be good for ling before bad creeps back in and poisons us again” …show more content…
This book is about the experiences of Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 12 and endures the brunt of the corrupt system of government. After her sister Prim was chosen to be a tribute in the Hunger Games she volunteered herself and after surviving through it alongside Peeta another boy from District 12 she has made the government furious. The book uses the motif of fire throughout the book. Due to being apart of the coal mining district the stylists decided they want Peeta and Katniss to wear clothes made out of fire for the opening ceremony in the Capitol. Katniss is given the name “ girl on fire” and it is continuously brought up though out the book. At one point in the arena her like is also on fire and she thinks to herself how everyone watching back at the Capitol will love showing people the girl on fire is literally burning. A theme stressed in this book is the stress on appearances. The whole book is about how it doesn't matter who you actually are but how you appear to your audience and the people with money because they are the ones that can help you. After the games are completed Katniss is made to look as young and innocent is they can make her to make her look like she out-smarted the government on accident and to show she was only a silly girl who was in love with

Robin Benway, in her novel, Emmy and Oliver, uses metaphors, personification, and hyperbole to expand on the dramatic plot of her book. This would cause readers to really feel a connection of grief to the main character, Emmy, and her friends, due to the situation they were going through of losing their friend for so many years. Benway expands on the shocking fact of Oliver coming back from being kidnapped by his dad for many years by using metaphors quite often. “Preserved in amber,” “A fossil in a brave new world,” compares Oliver’s new life to that of a fossil. This emphasizes on the awkward transition that Oliver is feeling, he knew his friends before, but after 10 years everything seems completely different-- which is a normal response to have after being kidnapped for 10 years.…

The inspiration for Suzanne Collin’s novel, The Hunger Games, came from channel surfing between reality shows where young kids were competing against each other to young kids fighting each other in a real war. The shows began to blur together in Collin’s mind and soon the story of Katniss began to develop (Interview). “Rebellion is when you look society in the face and say I understand who you want me to be but I’m going to show you who I actually am.” said by Anthony Anaxagorou. Which is true, we indeed rebel against society every as seen in the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when Katniss Everdeen shows that sometimes breaking the rules is necessary. The setting helps develops this theme because society is trying to be “perfect” and Katniss tries to defy that. She does so when she shoots at the Gamemakers to get their attention, as they are ignoring her for the food that had been brought there. One place in my novel it talks about this is on page 101, “It’s excellent shooting.…
