We’ve all seen these adult animated sitcoms, or at least heard about them. We watch these shows and grow up with them, they mold our personalities and change our perspective in life through the years. So when you think of the legends in this category you need look no further than Matt Groening’s classic The Simpsons, or the more recent twist Family Guy created by Seth Macfarlane. The Simpsons and Family Guy are American comical cartoons that share many similarities and differences. Although the two shows portray a dysfunctional American family and have a similar way of delivering humor, they both contrast in their targeted audience and characters.

Firstly, The Simpsons humor is family oriented and aims to target different generations. For instance, hidden insults and crude jokes that only older generations would understand is not included in the show. In addition, the Simpsons includes cultural references that most of the present generations would comprehend, which means that The Simpsons don’t include too much current pop culture and media related that older generations won’t recognize. And even with the adult orientated content, the show is suitable for the whole family to watch, even the young ones, though they won’t grasp some of the political and cultural jokes mentioned in the …show more content…
Peter Griffin, The father, is a slow blue-collar worker, who’s also abusive and negligent. His wife, Louis, a stay at home mother and a piano teacher. The daughter, Meg, is an awkward teenager, who’s always ignored by her family. Chris, their teenage son, who is overweight, dull-witted and similar to his father in many respects. Stewie, is their infant son with ambivalent sexual orientations and homicidal tendencies.
Even with the many resemblances and distinctions between the two facetious shows, The Simpsons and Family Guy are at the top of their category. And with the loyal viewers and good quality content, these shows will remain to be the elite of animated sitcoms in our modern day.
