Differences And Similarities Between Citizen Kane And Rosebud

I found Citizen Kane to be a very enjoyable movie. Its actually kind of funny, as I don’t usually like flashbacks when watching a movie or reading a book, but the way they did it in this movie was critical to the outcome. Throughout the film, I found myself swaying back and forth on whether or not I like Charles Kane, and I couldn’t wait to find out who Rosebud was! Initially, I felt sorry for Kane, I thought how sad it must have been to be pulled away from his family and especially at such a young age. However, watching him grow into a man and seeing some of the decisions he made, as well as the way he treated people I lost my sympathy. To me, he almost came across as a petulant young child. The scene that struck me the most would have

The fascinating part of Citizen Kane is that there are various untrustworthy narrators throughout the movie. In the very beginning we can see the newspaper headlines announcer giving the recent deceased of Kane. At that point you have all his own colleagues every telling the correspondent Thompson a specific piece of Kane's life. This particular approach to unfurl the plot certainly makes the film all the more captivating, making a biopic feel. It additionally includes significantly more perplexity, on the grounds that the greater part of the general population that we find out about Kane from wound up being exasperated with Kane's life decisions.…

In comparison, Citizen Kane also employs certain camera work to depict the theme of human isolation. As the film opens, the scene features the camera sliding up the fence. The upward movement of the camera reveals where Kane has placed himself in comparison to the rest of the world. Kane has lost so much of his connection to the rest of the world that he no longer considers himself a part of the rest of society. In addition, slow edits and various shots around the castle show the decay and decline that Xanadu has faced.…

Citizen Kane is considered by many to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest film of all time, and while I find the notion of labeling one movie as “the greatest film ever made” a bit overzealous, the contributions that Citizen Kane made to the film industry and the impact that it had on the audiences in its era is remarkable. Citizen Kane a substantial influence on the audience and the film industry through its use of innovative narrative style and technical cinematic elements that may not have been widely used in classic Hollywood cinema. The narrative style of Citizen Kane challenged the traditional Hollywood narrative by developing the story through the use of flashbacks and first person voice over narration from different characters throughout the movie. Each character, from Jed Leland, Kane’s “friend”, to Susan Kane, Kane’s second wife, to Jerry Thompson, the reporter looking for the meaning behind Kane’s last words, all contribute an aspect of Mr. Kane’s life in the form of a flashback.…

The story of the famous Charles Foster Kane is told by his associates/colleagues after he passed away. These men are far past their prime, and their depravity lends another layer of sadness and loneliness to the film. All of them men were once vital, active, and important. But now they are nothing more than old men, society has shunted them aside. Bernstein, as chairman of the board, says to the reporter that he has nothing at all to do.…

Expressionism is defined as using a art form or drama as a means for depicting subjective emotions and responses. Forms of expressionism often connect to the artists own life which could be said about Orson Welles’s 1941 film Citizen Kane. It is widely thought that Citizen Kane is an unauthorized biography about the life of William Randolph Hearst, a well known newspaper tycoon from the time the film was made. The film is perhaps a dramatized account of a man who controls the people through controlling the media, giving him the feeling of being a God. This is heavily supported by the imagery in the film such as the huge campaign posters of Charles Foster Kane’s face looking out to the crowd of supporters.…
