Differences And Characteristics Of Ted Bundy And Jeffrey Dahmer

The United States has the highest number of serial killers, with 76% of the world’s total. It is said that you walk past seven serial killers in your lifetime. Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer are two of America’s most notorious serial killers, and although they share few similarities, these two men still haunt the nightmares of the American psyche, and as much as we have studied and questioned serial killers throughout history, it seems that no two people share the same character traits. Many people have common confusion as to what categorizes someone as serial killer, rather than a murderer. Ted was raised by his stepfather, Johnnie Bundy, and his took his last name. Referring back to the FBI bulletin, where it stated that most serial killers experienced some kind of physical or sexual abuse, Bundy claimed that he was emotionally damaged due to witnessing his grandfather be physically and verbally abusive to family members, but never to Ted. It is said that ever since Bundy was a child he has a fascination with knives, stories of murder, pornograghy, and sexuallly violent detective magazies. Over the years, with the media, Bundy’s sex appeal has been greatly exaggerated. Ted Bundy would lure in his victims by targeting young college women. However, he preferred that his victims had some of the qualities that his first love had, dark long hair, tan skin, and below average height. He would either break into the woman's house to kidnap them, or he would wear an arm cast and carry a large box and wait for someone who fit his criteria to offer to help him to his car, and these women would never return. Bundy was very good looking, charismatic, and a casanova. Women clinged to him because of these qualities, therefore, it was never a challenge for him to get his next victim. It was not until 1975 that Bundy was arrested when one of his victims escaped and fled to police. He was sentenced to fifteen years for the kidnapping and assault of a fifteen year old girl. Once arrested he escaped twice, the first time he was caught a few hours later, the second time, however, if a much different story. Ted Bundy’s second escape was not noticed until hours later, by the time the prison realized his was gone he has already fled to Florida. While in Florida Bundy murdered two FSU students in the sorority house of Chi Omega and a twelve year old girl. He was recaptured and found guilty for the three murders and sentenced to death by electric chair. Jeffrey Dahmer is another one of America’s most famous serial killers. He is convicted of murdering fifteen young men. Unlike most serial killers it is said that Dahmer had a relatively normal childhood, with two loving parents. His parents saw that their son was very shy and reclusive so they began taking him to therapy. It obviously did not
