Should We Legalize Homosexuals?

Improved Essays
Some people think that homosexuals are horrible persons that don’t deserve to be treated with the same respect we treat heterosexuals. Truth is that we are all equals and sexual orientation does not matter when comparing the skills we all have as individuals. There are a lot of differences made in our society which includes sex, gender, race, ethnicity, and religion. Among these differences, sexual orientation is definitely an important point to be discussed knowing that same-sex marriage has been legalized nationwide. Even though we personally may think that same sex marriage doesn’t affect us directly, some people are against them. Those who are against same sex marriage try to cover themselves under the fact that their religion does not approve it. Being homosexual does not mean that they will do bad actions to others, every group has its own kind of individual. Saying that something or someone is not equal is making it different and we, as a …show more content…
This particular case happened in Michigan. The owner of the car repair shop found refuge under the RFRA arguing that he was a Christian and remarked homosexuality as an immoral behavior. He did not just showed his position against serving homosexuals but he also said that homosexuality was wrong. The fact that somebody does not approve something does not make it wrong and that is what is lacking in all of those cases. Those people who judged homosexuals lack sense of consciousness and acceptance. Personally I do not believe that we could fix this problem, people have their own way of thinking and they won’t change it just because it makes homosexuals feel isolated and unwanted. This issues definitely brings their self-esteem down. The only thing we can do is try to educate our relatives, the people near us, and the new

In a world of injustice and hatred, one would believe that people would at least have the audacity to respect others playing the cruel game of life. Homosexuals have faced many hardships and discriminatory laws that have suggested that they differ from heterosexuals and do not deserve equality. The unjust treatment towards homosexuals lacks mutual respect to marriage laws, adoption policies, and job opportunities. Homosexual couples may not fit the generic standards of what is considered normal in society but are humans, a part of our own species, and just as equally worthy of all rights that heterosexual couples have. On the other hand, there is a number of people who believe that homosexuality is a sin and against their religion, and others…

What separates the straight people from the gay people is that they follow traditional values of their religion. That is why they believe this manner of marriage is the only way for two people to be together. For them Marriage should be correspond to the Biblical accounts wear a man and a woman marrying is presented as natural thing in society. Straight people can be happy and be compatible with someone if found the right person to be with if that’s the case then why can’t gay people have the same rights? Some people don’t like the idea of gay marriage they feel that is un natural for two people of the same sex couples to get marry. But who are they to say that two people in love can’t get married just because they share same sex. So a person who is not in love has more of the right to get married then a couple who is in love, and all that they wish is to be married to the person who they truly love. So to say that same sex marriage is a bad thing seem prejudice to me. Over the past year’s same sex couples are finding new ways to be…

As I look at each side of the story I can see good point brought up on both sides of the story. For pros, you can’t deny the Constitution, and its rights that it allows people, but on the cons side, many people feel very strongly about their religion and wouldn’t want to go against it. I previously stated in the introduction that I felt that homosexuals should have the same rights that we do. I agree with Frank McEnulty, the President of Our Castle Homes though on the fact that homosexuals should have rights, but not “gay rights”, everyone should have the same rights. McEnulty stated…

Human beings are a very interesting species. We look for patterns in our fellow beings, and form opinions about those people that shape how we treat them. Such patterns in these people are called stereotypes, and they are more prominent when the patterns are uncommon. In The Laramie Project, a true story, Matthew Shepard was a bright and vibrant young adult. Sadly, he was targeted and beaten to death due to the fact that he was a homosexual. Homosexuality is a fairly rare trait in comparison to heterosexuals, so the stereotypes against this sexuality are extremely heavy. In addition to humans being stereotypical, we are also very influential. The media and popular culture have a major influence on the stereotypes that humans create for homosexuals.…

A very common excuse used is religion. Religion has long been a huge factor in people’s lives. According to Linda Alchin in “Medieval Religion”, in medieval times, the Catholic Church even trumped the government in many countries. Religion gave people a belief system, a reason to live, and a sense of comfort about death. Therefore, many people would follow religion over even government. Priests became powerful, and religion thrived. It united groups of people, separated groups of people, and even caused wars between groups of people. But arguably the most important contribution of religion is the morals it instills in mankind. They preach kindness, compassion, and helpfulness, but also to have certain views towards certain situations, one of these being same-sex marriage. According to David Masci and Michael Lipka in “Where Christian churches, other religions stand on gay marriage”, all major religions, especially the largest in the world, Catholicism, disapprove of same-sex marriage; only Presbyterians and a few smaller movements approve of it. And this perspective is reflected in each religion’s followers, too. According to Alan Blinder and Tamar Lewin in their New York Times article, “Clerk in Kentucky Chooses Jail Over Deal on Same-Sex Marriage”, on July 1, 2015, following the June 26 same-sex marriage ruling, a Kentucky…

That’s fine if you truly want to believe that and think that it shouldn’t be allowed, but keep that to yourself. I heavily disagree people trying to oppress the minority, it’s awful. Trying to control people and force them to do what we want is exactly why we left England and made our own country. I touched on this in a previous paragraph, but I truly want to get it across, stop trying to strip people from their right of freedom. Hating against the homosexual community is the same as hating against the Mexican, black, etc. It’s the same thing as being racist. They truly can’t control whether or not they like the same sex. People say that it is a choice, that they just wake up and decide to be gay. If that’s true, at exactly what point in your life did you decide to be heterosexual? Another thing, why would somebody willingly choose to be part of a serious minority that so many people are against? You would think they would want to be treated the same as everyone else. I certainly would not willingly have my rights stripped from me. Just the thought that homosexuality was a willing decision is ridiculous. It is pretty obvious, but I think that same-sex marriage should be allowed. It doesn’t affect anyone else negatively. The same thing happened when the controversy of interracial marriage became a problem. People thought that it would raise unseen problems no one had to deal…

For many years now homosexuals have been scrutinized by society because who they chose to love and how they chose to live their lives. Till this day there are many homosexuals that are afraid to come out because they fear how they will be treated by family, friends, and the people around them. It has been said that nearly a fifth of the 5,462 so-called single-bias hate crimes reported to the F.B.I. in 2014 were because of the target’s sexual orientation, or, in some cases, their perceived orientation. (Park & Mykhyalyshyn, 2016) To be honest, I feel like that the increase of hate crimes against homosexuals is because of the increase of people who are accepting them for who they are. Even though there are more people that are accepting in the society, they still have issues of being denied the same rights of everyone else. To me it doesn’t make any sense. They are people just like everyone else. They bleed, cry, love, and hurt like everyone else. Their lives matter just like everyone else’s. What makes them so…

People should be judged on how well they work, not by their sexuality. Employers fear homosexuals will drive people away or they will molest people. Statistics show that the majority of molesters are heterosexual men that are usually related to the victim. However straight men are still allowed jobs. Other rights that are ignored is that a homosexual can't see a sick or dying partner in the hospital. Also, they can't claim partner's property after death, they can’t get custody rights, and in two states they can't adopt children. Exactly what is the purpose of denying homosexuals these simple rights? Denying these rights isn't going to make homosexuals to change their sexual preference. It is funny how history is repeating itself. Years ago African-American existence was denied, their history ignored, bashing existed and discrimination took a big part of their life. It is happening all over again, but with a different crowd. Treating people fair seems to be a common goal of our constitution. Instead, America is relying on social beliefs, not laws, to ensure that people are treated fairly. Now no one can see eye to eye between the heterosexuals and homosexuals and why it is so difficult and may never happen. However that is not the main concern. Being treated fairly and not worrying about discrimination is the group's main concern. Most people will…

My understanding of this is that many leaders, religions, and people have decided to use being LGBTQ as a reason to treat people like they are less than human. This is comparative to the way some leaders have decided that others from another race or ethnicity are less because of their skin color, beliefs, or any excuse to commit genocide and other atrocities against human beings. It is a skewed way of viewing things, albeit, one that continues to cause inequality to all…

God created the Ten Commandments, yet people break those rules every single day and are forgiven for it. People steal, people cheat, people are greedy, people lie, yet being homosexual is looked down upon 100 times worse than any of those commandments that are broken on the daily. Also, maybe people are just uncomfortable with homosexuality because it’s different. But what if it wasn’t different? What if people didn’t pose it to be different? That would make half of the people who are against it, now for it, or at least comfortable with it.…

Today, people all over the U.S.A are being treated like animals, just because of what gender they love, for example, on “GoodTherapy.com” they say that, “bisexual people often are seen as “closet gays,” or as people who want to have a romantical partner while retaining heterosexual privilege.” In this state, people are split into two groups, Homos and Straights. While that is not true, People who think that Women should marry Men and vise verse are usually anti-homo and treat them, for example, like slaves. A law was passed in the united states for slavery, Women's rights and Blacks have the same rights as Whites, why can’t people who have a different sexuality than others to be treated with respect. My opinion is that people have fought for gay marriage and won, but that’s it. We fought a lot and I feel like we didn’t get enough.…

Society may not bring up this subject often but everyone has an opinion that mostly derives from parents, religion and general beliefs. Most people agree that the best way to upset someone is to bring up the subject of religion, politics, and gay marriage. Being raised to believe the same beliefs as the people around is hard because that’s all one has come to know so how does one know what he really believes in? By the time of an adult age we realize the beliefs that were forced upon adolescence and those that you feel are meant for you. The only way to bring up these subjects is by media weather that is by audio or video. TV shows can casually mention a gay friend in a random dialogue, they can have a gay couple as one of the main characters or the news can show a poll on the acceptance of gay people in society. As with most things, repetition is the key to success when it comes to winning over people on touchy subjects. The more times the watcher is exposed to something, the more likely that they are willing to be acceptant of it. This is a deliberate act by the liberal media to slant the view on gay marriage or maybe as simple as gay…

A big thing is that the couple gets their marital benefits. When a couple gets married they get many great benefits that a single person wouldn’t get, so a homosexual would say this was fair to them. Denying some people the option to marry is discriminatory and creates a second class of citizens. (1) People want to believe that they can love the people that they want to love, not the people that they legally have too.…

Laws have been passed for their equal rights and have freedom like any other person. These laws were passed under the belief that being homosexual was something one was born with. That they could not help that they were attracted to the same sex. In Tia Ghose article “Being Gay Not a Choice: Science Contradicts Ben Carson” states, “Most scientist would disagree. Years of research suggest that people can’t change their sexual orientation because they want to, and that trying can cause mental anguish.”. In Ghose article it is also stated that, “other research has found that being gay or lesbian tends to run in families.” People who have homosexual relationships throughout their family are more than likely to become homosexual. They see these relationships and believe it is okay to do the same. Not necessarily because they want to but, because they were never taught the difference between right and wrong. With that being said some also might come to the conclusion that being gay or lesbian is more of something genetic. It has not been proved, but the question has arised and is continuously being investigated. Research is trying to see the difference between chromosomes that run in a family with multiple gay persons . So are you born really this way? This eventually leads to experimentation in the younger generations. Children see this affection as something normal and see no harm of being with the same sex. This affection of…
