Perception can sometimes be a very odd thing. During the course of this assignment, I was very curious about how the people in my life perceived me. Was their perception of me mostly bad? Was their perception of me mostly good? Good or bad what was their reasoning? If their perceptions of me changed at any point? All of these questions went through my head as I handed each one of my charts away to the people I chose. I perceive everyone I chose for this assignment as either a close family member or friend. This is why I was so curious at the time. Before I asked them how they felt about me I needed to know how I saw myself. In order to determine how I saw myself I completed the chart myself first. Within each group the explanations were the same, but there were differences in the configurations. The differences in the groups were not very wide ranging; however, they were much more subtle depending on if you were referring to my friends or my family. This was probably a result of the circumstances in which we were introduced and what role we played in each other’s lives. My mother and sister prioritized the traits that would be best associated with being a good relative. Being intelligent, courageous, and merciful. They remarked that they loved that I had these traits mostly because it benefited them. My mother always says that she loves to brag to her friends about how intelligent I am. My sister said she was glad I was courageous because I am usually the first to defend her in any situation. My mother also felt this way to a slightly different degree. Many of the traits they prioritized I would also prioritize had they given me a similar sheet respectively. I’ve known my family all my life and I used to look up to them and many of the traits they prioritized I adopted because I knew they prioritized them based information interpreted as a child. I used to look up to my older sister as a protector of sorts so that definitely played a role in me wanting to return the favor someday as a child. My mother is also very confident and taught my sisters and me to be as well. My friends and I became friends because we shared similar home lives and perceptions of the world as a whole. The way I view them is very similar to how they view me. Environment, perception, and culture definitely played the largest role in this
