Temperance and Transcendence Temperance is a terminology used to refer to character that manifests self-constraint and self-regulation in the control and management of one. Temperance is a virtue that is generally associated with protective traits. The virtue of transcendence is associated with strengths of meaning which allow one to connect to the larger universe.
