To start off, I’m going to give you an overview of slavery. Slavery has existed since previous to the time of Jesus. But back into modern times, in the 1600s colonists in the new world still preferred white, European, ex-prisoners as indentured servants (which well get to later). At this point in time, the colonists did not notice Africa as a source of slaves. But around the 1660s, the southern colonies started to realize that there were more than enough slaves, and especially labor from Africa.
