Difference Between Slavery And Indentured Servants

Are slavery and Indentured Servants both a fair and equal form if labor? This is a question still many people ask today. President Abraham Lincoln had his opinions as well. He once said "I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. I cannot remember when I did not so think, and feel." Many people today, think that slavery and Indentured Servants are the same but they are not, in fact, they are strikingly different in some ways. Although they bear some minor similarities, the differences between slavery and indentured servitude are astounding. Him or her would be captured, put on a ship, and shipped to America in a very cramped ship, with limited food, and him or her would be shackled. After these horrid conditions on a ship, they would work on a plantation for the rest of their life. Also, in any part of the process they may die. Second of all, how were indentured servants and slaves protected different? An indentured servant has more rights or laws to protect them from being harmed and abused. Although this was how indentured servants were protected, slaves had different protection because a slave was treated like property. For example, a poor person from England would still know English laws, and since the 13 colonies were under England’s rule, the colonies followed the English laws.
