Overview
There are many similarities and differences between service and manufacturing organizations. Differences between are the tangibility of their output, production on demand or for inventory, customer-request of production, labor of operations and production location (Linton, 2016). Manufacturers offer their own service operations and both require employees who are experience and skilled people to gain an essential amount of profitable business (Linton, 2016). In this paper I will compare a manufacturing and a service driven company through process maps of how the services are is created and delivered. I will be evaluating and analyzing elements of the infrastruture for the manufacturing company and Service Company. I will be discussing the customer introduced variability, implementing flexibility, and how understanding both manufacturing and service companies will help us individuals in the future. Manufacturing and service companies share some characteristics and both require skilled people. The difference between service and manufacturers are the tangibility of their reproduction (Linton, 2016).Manufacturers produce physical goods that customers can see and touch while service goods are not developed upon customer request (Linton, 2016). Service companies create services when a customer requests it. Manufacturers produce goods to forecast demand with inventory levels (Linton, 2016).
