The use of self-awareness is crucial to further development as it assists individuals to identify certain feedback that has not been communicated to them. Yet, self-awareness can be affected by specific issues including self-concept and intrapersonal communication. Self-concept is the way people identify themselves within the world around them. It conflicts with self-awareness as an individual’s self-concept hinders their ability to be self-aware. This lacking of self-awareness inhibits individuals to recognise their own strengths and weaknesses within their personal thoughts and behaviours. For example when an individual may have a high perception of themselves, this will often lead to the use of self-awareness being prohibited as the individual believes they do not need to further improve. To be aware of these traits it enables people to gain a better understanding of themselves and fix and address any problems that need improvement.
