Different organisations have different organising systems, these systems are the key for an organisation to succeed or fail in the future. Samsung, an example of a successful organization in the electronic industry was found by Lee-Byung Chull in 1938 as a trading company . It entered the electronics industry in 1960 (Stickler 2013) . Its contrasting peer, Motorola was found in 1928 by Paul V. and Joseph E. Galvin which sold battery-eliminators as their first product but due to organization failure, it ended on October 30, 2014 (Motorola 2006). The essay below will compare and contrast these two companies by using the Fayol’s four function namely, planning, organising, leading and controlling. (Waddell, Jones, and George 2013). “Planning” is to choose suitable organisational goals and ways of action to achieve the goals. The “Value Innovation Program” even organized by Samsung for their product planning. (Value Innovation Program for Product Planning of Samsung Electronics, Dong-Joon Kim) Most of the organisations focused just on continuous process of improvement, but Samsung was different, it introduced a focus on innovation (search about importance of innovation to an organisation). Samsung introduced two pillars of business innovation which were supply chain management and six sigma (explain). From most of the product manufactured by Samsung, it made full use of Supply Chain Management solutions besides process innovation to uphold and improve its operations.
