The Roman Catholic is the largest branch of Christianity in the world( Graces- Foley, 94) The reasoning behind the name is the center of the church in person and the location is Vatican City. This differs from Sikhism since the latter religion is one of the world’s youngest religions.
There is a population difference, while the Catholic religion has over 1 billion followers the population of the Sikh religion is only around 30 million. Catholics worship in a Church, Chapel, Cathedral ect , while the Sikhism is worshiped in a place called a Gurdwara, this is worshiped in for congregational worship. Personal worship can be done at any time or place since God exists everywhere. The Clergy in the Catholic religion consist of Priests, Bishops, Ministers, monks and nuns who in the Sikh tradition there are The Granthi, there is also Gurus.
For the funeral practice, in the modern Catholic religion day there are three steps, the vigil or wake, which allows ritual, allows for ritual space for the telling of the story of the deceased and for expressions of grief and lament. The funeral liturgy proper, normatively a Eucharist incorporates the story of the deceased into the story of the death and resurrection of Christ. The honoring of the body with incense, which stresses the theology of the interaction and belief that the human body functions as a temple of the Holy Spirit. You are reborn again and again until you can reach salvation. But until that point each time you die you are just reborn again. To reach salvation in the Catholic tradition, you must die and be resurrected. During your lifetime, though, you must accept God and do good deeds.
This is close t how you would reach salivation in the Sikh Tradition. In the Sikh tradition you must do good deeds, preform services for the community and through this you will be forgiven and be able to break the cycle of reincarnation to reach salvation.
Both religions have some major differences and it was interesting to be able to compare a religion, I just learned about to a religion that I have been a follower of my entire life. Being able to do more research past the book for Sikhism gave a greater understanding of the religion.
