These groups are participant, subject, and parochial cultures. In a participant culture people are involved in the government because they know they are part of it such as the U.S. Subject culture is not completely a democratic structure like a participant culture because it does not closely pay attention to politics they more are viewers more than hands on. This culture was widely seen in West Germany and Italy because there was a time when people had no say and that culture has stuck with them throughout generations. The last culture that the reading discusses is Parochial culture. In this culture people do not see themselves as part of a bigger picture and do not see themselves as citizens of a nation because they do not care about it. In this structure democracy cannot thrive so they do not want to make that happen and if they did it would take a complete breakdown of government and to start from scratch. These structures are not main political cultures but they are subcultures and a subculture is a “minority culture within the mainstream culture” (Roskin 117). Elites are known as the 1% they are the well educated and they make more money than others. With this status and wealth they can influence policy and be more involved with politics because they are well informed. A mass political subculture is the rest of the people found in a nation they feel like they are not as powerful because they aren’t as profitable as the 1% but their voices can still make a difference. These political cultures do vary and this can be seen in an economic sense. An elite subculture does tend to create more economic growth because these people are highly educated and tend to be more involved with politics and this can affect political agendas and get more money for the elites. A mass culture where people do not want to affect the politics will not be an economic success because they aren’t out there trying to change political ideals and help gain a better view on politics which can help with economic
