The police and local law enforcement are key parts to combat and respond to threats of terrorism throughout our country. Local law enforcement officials are likely to be the first people with the authority to arrest and or take out a suspected terrorist and investigate suspicion of terrorist activity. The policy and training regarding police work and terrorism allows for law enforcement to try and protect the United States from events like 9-11 and the Boston Bombing. When community policing is implemented and adapted with homeland security policies can help combat terrorism while helping community police relations.

There are ways to help support successful implementation of community policing including the following, including community advocates into the agencies policies and roles, help support immigrants to be recruited into the police department, hier interpreters when needed, have designated community police officers for the immigrant communities, use ethnic religious institutions, radio, and other media to communicate with the immigrant community, include the leaders of the immigrant community in training and other parts of the department, and clearly list and discuss your policy on immigration laws. Recruiting Muslims, Arabs and other minorities into police departments can help familiarize others in the department about the culture and about Islam. Ibrahim Hooper, a former speaker with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, supports Muslims joining police departments to increase community and police relations. There is fear in the immigrant community when the terror alert is elevated, this fear is from the possibility of a terrorist attack and that they will be targeted by authorities (Policing Terrorism). Since immigrants often distrust and fear the police, there is a language barrier at times between police and immigrants, and immigrants do not understand how police ma work in the U.S. are all reasons why it is important to reach out to these communities by using community policing ( Policing Terrorism).
