The three brands chosen to conduct the taste test were Lay’s, No Name and Old Dutch.
The company Lay’s was founded by salesman Herman Lay when he opened a snack food company in 1932 in Dorset, Ohio. Lay merged his company with Elmer Doolin, founder of the Frito Company in 1961. Since then, Frito-Lay became one of the largest snack food manufacturers in North America.
The company No Name is a generic brand grocery and household products sold by Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada's largest food retailer. The products are commonly found in store like Real Canadian Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart and Dominions. They offer a wide range of products and are usually cheaper than private brands.
Old Dutch Foods is a manufacturer of potato chips and other snack foods in the Midwestern United States and Canada. In the beginning, we lost a couple of survey results because we forgot to check the surveys and how to fill them in properly. In the future, we should double check that the survey is working to prevent losing data. Something that went well was that the survey takers did not eat the samples and just leave. They were thoroughly engaged with the activity and took into consideration of all the different qualities we asked them to concentrate on. Another thing that we could’ve done differently was to put the surveys near the samples so the responders could remember which one they ate.
In conclusion, the taste test was very successful. We collected a sufficient amount of data and had fun while doing it. We had some setbacks in the beginning but managed to pull through at the end. In the future we now have some improvements to make our taste tests
