Nietzsche begins the session by explaining his dissatisfaction with the English psychologists who have attempted to explain the meaning of morality. The English psychologists claimed that “good” referred to unegoistic useful actions by the people who benefited from such actions. He says that to get the true meaning of good, one should look at the etymology of some of the words and phrases used to describe this concept. His approach to finding the meaning of good is that it was associated with nobility and badness with simpleness and the common man. This inspired his idea of good and bad and good and evil.
