Generation Y individuals value independence just as much as teamwork. Finding the right balance is highly important because working in a team gives the feeling that one is included and working individually gives the ability to grow professionally. In addition to this, this generation can work very well in groups. Yet, their parents also raised them with the mindset that they have to see themselves as unique individuals and taught them the value of individuality and individual thinking. This explains why the majority of Generation Y individuals constantly seek the right balance between independence and teamwork. (Hansen, n.d.), (Kane, n.d.)

Thus, they will not work very long shifts to work their way up in a company (Rioux, 2012), (Kane, n.d.). Many Generation Y individuals, like Generation X individuals, were raised in two-income families with their parents dedicating their lives for work. Despite this, Generation Y individuals are considered to have stronger relations with their parents due to the cellphone technology. For this reason, their parents were hardly out of reach. In addition to this, their parents were also dedicating their time in filling every moment of their children 's lives by introducing them to a volume of well-structured and well-supervised education and activities. Busy schedules and expanded educational/sports opportunities is where their confidence and need for variety and challenge comes from (Bruce Mayhew Consulting, 2014). Thus, this generation will try to understand the career path of these successful people and see if a similar career path can be applicable to their situation (Rioux, 2012). Even though this generation sometimes tests the authority of their superiors by questioning a lot of issues, they still consult their superiors so as to have their opinion.
