Mercy and grace are two key terms used when describing God’s character. We know that His mercy and grace are made know in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:14-16 (New International Version), tells us that Jesus is the Son of God, he can empathize with our weaknesses, and although he was tempted, he never sinned. It then states “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Although mercy and grace often are used interchangeably, one should know that there is a difference between the two.

For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2)
Etzel and Gutierrez (2014) speak of the term regeneration and how God washed away our sins. “God changed us when He regenerated us. He didn 't just resuscitate our sinful souls; He washed our souls clean and gave us a new life.” (Etzel & Gutierrez, 2014) This is a great expression of Gods given mercy, a new life instead of a life of condemnation, judgment, and the wrath of God. “Jesus is the covering for sin, as previewed by these Old Testament prophetic images.
