Pat Summit grew up on a farm with three brothers, her mother, and her father. Her father had high potentials for his only daughter to play high school basketball and be better than the player she was yesterday. Pat 's father raised her like a combination of a fourth son and an extra set of hands. Being raised in such a different environment like this gave Pat the coaching attitude to be feared but respected, the same way she felt about her father. When Pat first began coaching, a couple players quit after running suicides. Pat realized after time went on that she needed to develop a relationship with her players instead of being so tough and expecting the best out of them. "She figured out how to frame criticism as a challenge, to bring out the competitor in each player." Pat showed more of a kindhearted side for her players. Later on in Pat Summits years, she was unfortunately diagnosed with Alzheimer 's which changed her life in many ways. This diagnosis did not stop Pat for her dreams in coaching, she used it as a way to slow down the progression of the disease. After all her years of coaching, it is safe to say that Pat Summit is a woman coach who is not afraid to show her masculine side. Pat Summit is a more aggressive coach who is not afraid to slam her hands off of the ground from her sideline when she is upset about a call or play. Then there is Mike Krzyzewski who is a coach that looks at the big picture and takes the blame losing. He wants to make an impression on his players to help them grow into young men.
Two great coaches with two different views on coaching and the same views on interpersonal team relationships. Both Pat Summit and Mike Krzyzewski coach in completely different ways, but both have successful coaching styles that help their team 's win games.
