The Miami County Jail is newer; it has better security, and holds more inmates. The Miami County Jail has higher and better security. There is more space in the Miami County Jail. In my opinion, I believe that the Miami County Jail…
In the PBS film Prison State, filmmakers follow the lives of four individuals throughout incarceration in the Kentucky Criminal Justice system, as well as efforts made to reform the system and the effect on inmates. They also studied the impact of criminalization of Juveniles for minor crimes, and the incarceration of the mentally ill and drug addicted. Among the many staggering statistics revealed on the Kentucky Criminal Justice System in the film, was the amount spent on housing the growing inmate population. According to the film, the state of Kentucky’s spending jumped by 220%, about half a billion dollars, in housing inmates between 1999 and 2010.…
A prison is built to house persons for longer periods of time following conviction for a more serious offense. Since as early as back in the 1500s there have been imprisonment facilities. However, it was not until the year 1790 that the United States of America created its first prison in Pennsylvania which instituted solitary confinement for incarcerated convicts. The offenders that were sentenced to hard labor were moved indoors to an inner block of solitary cells in Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Jail. Most eighteenth century prisons were simply large holding pens.…
The Miami jail there was only one way to get in and out of the jail, and the people in the front desk were the only ones who had access to open the doors. The Wabash county jail all you needed to open the doors is a card which most employees have. The Miami county jail the ladies in the front office are the only ones who have a way in the front office. The Wabash county jail you can just walk straight into the front office. If the Miami county jail got over ran by the prisoners they wouldn’t have a way to get to the ladies in the front office, because they would have to let them in.…
Our criminal justice class took a trip to the Huntington and Wabash county jail this week. I was very excited to go on these trips since I had never actually got the opportunity to go into the main parts of the jail before. I was intrigued to learn more information about the jails and how they operate. To my surprise, there were many differences and similarities between the two jails.…
There are thousands of local city jails all across the US and this week we got to travel and see 2 of them in our community area. There are many differences and similarities between the two jails that we went to visit; the Wabash County jail & the Miami County jail. These two jails vary in many ways, when you consider technology, size, and availability. When it comes down to it, Miami County’s jail is the nicer and bigger of the two, if I got put in jail, that’s where I would want to go.…
America has the largest prison population in the world. The United States makes up five percent of the world’s population, but incarcerates 25% of the world prisoners; since 1978 the number of prisoners in the United States has tripled (Schlosser, 1998). “Today, the United States has approximately 1.8 United States has approximately 1.8 million people behind bars: about 100,000 in federal custody, 1.1 million in state custody, and 600,000 in local jails. Jail populations and prison populations differ by the type of crime or crimes that the offender is convicted of. Someone that is sentenced to jail will only serve up to a year or is awaiting their trial date (Danahy, 2017). A person that is sentenced to jail has been convicted of misdemeanor charges. Misdemeanor charges are charges that are minor offenses of the law and usually are non-violent in nature. Some examples of offenses that people get sentenced to jail are check fraud, disorderly conduct, breaking and entering, and filing a false police report (Schmalleger & Smykla, 2015).…
2. In the textbook they first start by explaining what parole is, followed by its origin. Parole did not originally start in the United States, it evolved greatly in the 19th century following the practices of the Australians, English, and Irish. The practices in these countries were to essentially move prisoners out of the prisons due to overcrowding, labor shortages, and the high cost of incarceration (Clear). Indeterminate sentencing, on the other hand, gives more control over the time prisoners serve to correctional officials and parole boards.…

It all comes done to the conditions of the confinement. There are four types of prisons in the United States. Prisoners are often incarcerated for "white-collar" crimes, such as fraud.…
Some people need prison/jail , as where others don’t. Preferably, we might want to restore them, and have them in controlled and directed situations and stable living conditions. Individuals trust that by isolating them from society for a specific time frame will protect society. However, jails wind up being exclusively distribution centers rather than spots for individuals to end up restored. Rehabilitation occurs when an individuals (after being incarcerated) CHOOSES to change.…

When the War on Drugs was introduced in the 1970s, its purpose was to prohibit drugs flowing into the United States, and to reduce the drug trade.
