The change from high school to post-secondary education is a tremendous one. Many students that enter post-secondary college come to school thinking that the transition will be an easy one. They find out later that the adventure is much different from the one that they had just experienced. They soon find out that college costs are more expensive, have more academic challenges, and offer a more unique social setting than in high school. The first difference between high school and college is evident. As students enter post- secondary education, they must pay fees and tuition. A college’s average tuition is $9,047 per semester. The workload for a college student is significantly greater than that of a high school student. College students are required to do more written exams and more written homework assignments than what is required of a high school student. These assignments are more challenging and require much more time than some assignments in high school. College students, however, have more time to complete these assignments as they attend classes only every other day. Many high school students must attend class each day. The hours a high school student spends in class is greater than the college students. But, the out of class time preparation is much greater for post-secondary students. Each different degree requires you to take different classes. The guiding principles between college and high school are different. In high school students will be told what to do and corrected if their behavior is out line. In college students are expected to take responsibility for what they do and don’t do as well as the consequences for their decisions. Lastly, colleges provide many more activities than high schools. When a student enters college, universities usually set up an orientation for new students. Through this process, students become familiar with the campus and life away from home. Many college students find time to participate in intra-mural sports, spend time in gyms, weight rooms, and interaction in various clubs. There is a variety of clubs that are open to college students. They have the chance to take advantage of these activities to become better acquainted with fellow college students. High schools also offer a variety of clubs, but there is usually a much smaller number of participants. Many high school students choose one or two extra-curricular activities. College students on the other hand find time to participate in many activities. Colleges offer a handful of social events such as picnics,
