Maturity in psychological terms is defined as the ability to respond to the environment in an appropriate manner. Maturity can also be defined as the development of spiritual, intellectual, emotional and volitional capacity of an individual. Some people can mature at an early age, whereas others may take time to mature. Maturity does not necessarily come with age. A mature person means coming to term with one’s self, others and situations that life throws at them. High school and college are a part of millions of people’s daily lives. High school and college are both forms of education that young people go through in America to get ahead in life. For example, a student who is in high school does not have the same level of responsibility as a student in college. There are rules for students to follow in high school, so the students are guided through the years. Teachers and parents can remind the student of their responsibilities to ensure that they get done. A freshman in high school is excited and also nervous to start their life off as a high school student. Academics are supposed to be the main reason why students attend high school but, the majority of high school student’s main focus is the impress their peers. Teenagers increasingly look for acceptance and validation in their peers when they enter high school. Some students are influenced by their peers to do well in school, while some are not. Both type of students are in the process of growing as individuals. Not all of college students have it all together. Transitioning from high school to college can bring out the immaturity in people. Those people who are not intellectually ready to be an adult. Some college students are still developing in terms of emotional and social maturity. The same with high school students. They have to transition from middle school to high school and what comes with that is a different workload, new surroundings and new peers.The Student has to be mature enough to separate work and fun. When it comes to school work or everyday things; such as who they surround themselves with. It is the student’s responsibility to do what’s best for them.
