Many describe happiness as the feeling of being enlightened and complete. Many think happiness is as the bright, warm, sunny days of the year and sadness as a cold, dull looking, piece of useless scrap metal. Happiness results when we refuse to think negatively, but before realizing this we must have a well knowledge of what happiness and sadness are. Happiness is when you feel complete and is related to positivity. Anything that is good is happiness. If it is in any way, shape or form related to being positive it is happiness. There is always a way to be grateful and when we are grateful it makes us happy. As David SteindlRast said, “It isn’t happiness that makes us grateful. It is gratefulness that makes us happy.” ("David Steindl-Rast: Want to be happy? Be grateful"). You are probably thinking, “What does gratefulness have to do with happiness resulting when we refuse to think negatively?” Well when you are grateful you are happy because being grateful is being positive and not negative. Therefore, you are blocking out all negative thoughts and replacing them with positive thoughts by being grateful which leads to happiness. I have recently heard about these Monks who climb up a cold, snowy mountain and they sit up there for like twelve hours and they sit there and do nothing. They think about nothing, they do nothing, they basically meditate for twelve hours and they are happy. They are happy because they have trained themselves to be happy in any circumstance. Which means they think of no negativity at all and that is why they are always happy, even when they are doing basically nothing for twelve hours sitting uncomfortably on a mountain.
