Difference Between Face Validity And Determine Validity

The two types of measurement validity that will be discussed are face validity and convergent validity. Face validity, “assesses the extent to which the measure appears to be valid to the people to who it is being administered” (Krysik & Finn, 2013, p. 262). Construct validity “is based on the way a measure is related to other variables within a system of theoretical relationships” (Krysik & Finn, 2013, p. 263).
Face validity and construct validity are similar in the fact that both types of validity indicate how much meaning can be placed on a particular test result. Face validity and convergent validity are an approximate measure of an operationalization accurately reflecting its construct. Fae validity is based on the opinion of an individual

Often times face validity is measured by using questionnaires that consist of questions that simply make sense to the individual taking part in the research study, which are not usually difficult to create. Using face validity also tends to encourage individuals to participate in the research study because it appears the questionnaire is measuring what it is supposed to measure. On the other hand, face validity is considered the weakest type of validity because it is subjective and based on judgement. Due to face validity being based on opinion there is no way to determine how the measurement procedure measures what it is intending to …show more content…
Content validity “is concerned with both the choice of the items and the degree to which the measure has captured the entire domain of the concept” (Krysik & Finn, 2013, p. 262). Content validity is commonly assessed from the perspective of experts in the field of the research. Criterion-related validity “assess a measuring instrument in relation to its ability to predict some external criterion” (Krysik & Finn, 2013, p. 262). Predictive validity and concurrent validity are the two forms of criterion-related validity. Criterion-related validity could be applied to the research regarding the effectiveness of methadone on the heroin epidemic.
Criterion-related validity is the best way of determining validity in methadone research because it “maintains that the measure should able to discriminate between groups based on the key variables” (Krysik & Finn, 2013, p. 264). The variables will be individuals that receive methadone maintenance treatment and individuals that do not receive methadone maintenance treatment. The test-retest reliability would support the methadone research by measuring the behavior before and after methadone maintenance treatment to determine if behaviors
