There are often times where conflict occurs within an organization, and it can’t be prevented. If it cant be prevented it must be managed. Managing conflict looks to be easy but it is often misconstrued and shrugged off by individuals within an organization. As first time mangers many don’t look at conflict as being a big deal but there is much more to it than it seems. Conflict can do as little as cause someone to quit the job or as big as ten employees quitting. As a manger it is your job to make sure employees needs are met among these many needs is conflict and Maslows hierarchy theory.

There are two different outcomes of managing conflicts, constructive and destructive. Differences Between constructive and destructive conflict. Constructive conflict is conflict that can be solved with both parties coming to an equal agreement or coming up with a solution that both find adequate with the situation. All in all everyone has the idea that they won in the situation and the problem was solved. This is a positive turn out and normally results in a plan or solution that all parties agree with following. Often when guidelines are written it makes for less conflict and is easier for employees to follow. “By understanding the issue and taking positive action, you can help solve the problem and make your office a place where you really want to be,” Susan Lankton-Rivas. Destructive conflict is a problem that never gets solved and maybe even gets worse. Destructive conflict often damages relationships between employees and or customers. Employees who feel the negativity which will cause lose of focus and failure to complete tasks. These things lead to decrease of positive factors and productivity. Professional bearing is the way you conduct yourself in a professional manner. Examples of controlling your professional bearing is not cursing or using any type of profanity and using appropriate context. Being professional doesn’t mean you have to wear a business suite or carry a briefcase to look the part being professional can mean many things. How you conduct yourself and what people see is called perception. If somebody smells alcohol on your breath during the work day they are going to get the imprecation that you consumed alcohol while you were at work. This may not be the case but this is how it was perceived. Being professional is also about hygiene and how your appearance looks. When you see someone dressed like a fireman on the streets your going to assume that they are a fireman. Although you may not have to dress in a suite you do have to make sure you look professional.Most organizations have dress code policys that can be followed to help eliminate this problem. The most important part of being professional is when it concerns handling conflicts. When handling conflicts as a professional person you have to remember to remain calm. Calm control has more advantages and is easier to manage and negotiate from. Get conflicts resolved fairly, expeditiously, and move forward as constructively as you can.
