Difference Between Community Colleges And Universities

One major decision one must make after graduating high school or going back to school after time off is whether to go to a university or stay home and go to community college. Although, community colleges and universities serve the same purpose, the two differ in ways a person should think about before making a decision.

The first difference between community colleges and universities is the size of the environment. At a community college, a student has more interaction with the professor and the classroom size has a smaller portion of students. The campus is a reasonable size for the students. On the other hand, a university has less interaction with the professor and is made up of hundreds of students in an auditorium size classroom. The campus size is huge enough for a student that’s not familiar with the campus to get lost looking for classes that are far apart from each other.

Most community colleges don’t invest as much in campus facilities, athletic programs, and student clubs/organizations. Many students feel the need to have more of a college experience. Universities, however, handles campus activities differently. The campus has large athletic programs, sororities, and a variety of student clubs/organizations. Many feel the college experience and it seems to be enjoyable.

In conclusion, these three aspects clearly show how community colleges and universities operate in different ways. However, their differences don’t stop students from getting an education. Though they differ in levels of degree, their chance at opportunity steadily evolves. Starting from a community college and moving up to a university is called taking it one step at a time until all academics are succeeded. It’s not about how a person start off, it’s how a person
