In Japan, the bus drivers announce the next stop with the speaker in the bus. However, in Australia, they do not. Hence, when you ride on buses, just remembering the name of your bus stop, is not enough. You will have to research what is surrounding the stop. Furthermore, bus drivers do not stop the bus, unless somebody raises their hand up. In Japan, the bus immediately stops if people are waiting. These two differences in the bus systems has to be put in mind when a Japanese goes to Australia, since misunderstandings can lead to arguments. There is also a slight contrast in the lifestyles they have in Japan and Australia. Most Japanese grocery stores are open until 8 or 10 o’clock at night, for office workers and university students who work until late at night. Whereas nearly all Australian stores close at 6 pm.
