Authoritarian and permissive parenting styles are very different. One difference is the amount of rules given to the children, authoritarian parents have many rules and expect obedience, whereas, permissive parents have little to no rules and don’t expect a great deal. Permissive parents tend to be very lenient and quite often give in to their child’s desires without expecting much in return. Authoritarian parents tend to be strict and don’t allow any slack when it comes to rules. Another difference between authoritarian and permissive parenting styles is the use of punishment. Permissive parents use very little punishment to correct bad behavior, however, authoritarian parents use punishment as a way to shape and reinforce certain behaviors.
