This is why we have so many problems understanding other people and trying to get them to understand us. They can’t just understand us because they aren’t us. This is why we communicate. I am an artist. My brother is a musician. My friend is a writer. My husband is a speaker. There are debaters, performers, filmmakers, emotionalists, scientists, carpenters, and philanthropists. Communicators are not limited only by this small list though. There is no limit to the ways of communication, but the way they speak to people can be condensed into three categories, visual, auditory, and emotional. When we can find what speaks to us individually, we are able to understand how others are communicating to us and speak to them using whatever speaks to them the most. Art is a communication technique that takes many forms, sculpture, painting, sketching, and photography, and these forms can be mixed and matched many different ways. Art has been happening for many millennium, and can be used to communicate emotions, actions, political ideas, dreams, and anything the human mind can think up. It visually communicates these ideas in ways that attract people, showing people beautiful, intriguing, and even horrifying images that communicate what the artist wanted people to know and feel. Many people can feel connected to art and it can speak to them in ways other forms can’t. These three forms are only few forms of communication that can be used to affect people visually, auditorily, and emotionally. After exploring the different forms of communication, the real question is, “What speaks to you?” Once you find how to truly engage with the world in the way that only you can, you can understand others’ communication methods and better communicate with each individual as well. We each have great power inside of us and the only way to make it useful is to communicate with others and share what we have to give. So, what speaks to you?
