Analytical or planned approach is suitable for stable environment that is completely controllable and predictable. This approach has certain requirements that include development of formal plans, centralized leadership and precise intentions. The planned approach is characterized with a specific mission, shared organizational intentions and realization of these intentions. This approach neglects the consideration of external factors such as changes in government policy, customer preferences, and introduction of new technologies (Hamilton & Webster, 2015). Such type of approach cannot be applied in the modern business environment due to non-availability of absolute predictable and controllable business environment. The companies do not control or have little control over the business environment which made this approach less important.
On the other hand, emergent approaches to strategy works in an environment, which cannot be predicted or control of the companies. In emergent approach, opportunities, threats and past actions give importance for providing feedback on such events. This approach is totally responsive to external factors.
