Calcium is the body’s most abundant mineral found in both the blood and the skeletal tissue. The skeleton contain 99% of the body’s calcium stores and the remaining percentage is found in the rest of the body. Calcium provides rigidity to bones and teeth and is essential for growth and development from the early stages of life (Mason, 2007). It is also essential in cell metabolic functions such as cell signaling and maintenance, nerve transmissions and muscle contractions(Penland & Johnson, 1993). Calcium is majorly absorbed from dietary intake. The Dietary Reference Values(DRVs) for calcium for females aged 18-50 are 700-800mg however the National Osteoporosis Society(NOS) recommends women 1000mg for women aged 13-19 years and 1500mg for
