Are diet cokes healthy for you just because they have the word ‘diet’ in them? Well, the answer to that question is no. Studies have shown that diet coke can actually damage your body incredibly. It can make you lose your body structure as well as make you gain weight. Most people see the word diet and see the calories of the beverage and assume that it is healthy for you. However diet coke can make you gain weight instead of lose it. Researchers have found that diet soda drinkers’ waist grew 70% more than people who didn’t take part in drinking the soda. By drinking two or more a day has been known to increase people's weight five times more than people who stayed away from them completely. Coke including diet coke is the leading …show more content…
However there is a difference between regular and diet coke. Regular coke is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup while diet coke is sweetened with artificial sweeteners (aspartame). Regular coke has more calories and a stronger taste than diet coke, while diet coke has less calories and taste more bland. However regular coke can cause weight loss while diet coke can cause weight gain. Diet coke comes with many risks. In fact drinking one diet soda a day gives you a 36% more chance to have metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Metabolic Syndrome means you have high blood pressure, increasing glucose levels, raised cholesterol, and large waist circumferences which put people at risk for heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. A lot of people are asking if diet cokes and other sodas should be banned; 44% say yes and 56% say no. In my opinion, I don't think they should be. Even though it is bad for you, so are a lot of other things. If you ban one bad thing, you’d have to ban them all. People can make their own decisions about the things they want to eat or drink. Some people can argue that cokes are considered addicting, but honestly you can get addicted to just about
