Each year the diesel industry changes their engines, fuel systems, or injectors, and the technicians have to be up to date on that specific information in order to know how the new engine parts or programs work to ensure the engines are tuned-up to proper specification and they if they work properly. In todays diesel industry, most jobs require a college education or the individual must be in the field of work for many years, most importantly, they must be well informed on the newest technology required to tune-up an engine or diagnose a problem with it. Furthermore, technicians must be able to identify, understand, and explain problems with the engines to their customers, fellow workers, or their boss. For instance, if a customer asks for a tune-up, it is the technicians job to see if the vehicle actually needs a tune-up. The customer may have coolant in the oil, making it run sluggish. As a result, the technician should look for a milky or cloudy appearance as he or she is checking the oil level and they can take proper steps to fixing the problem. With this in mind, it shows the technician is trustworthy, and he or she is knowledgable of their work. This shows the customers they are not paying for work that the technician did not do, they are reliable in their work, and it keeps the customers satisfied and coming back for
